Raymond Chase (above), a 19 year old sophomore, attended Johnson and Wales college in Rhode Island. September 29, 2010, Raymond commited suicide by hanging himself in his dorm room. He was openly gay and while the cause of his suicide is not yet known, he is the 5th queer youth 2 commit suicide in the past 4 weeks.
September 9, 2010, Billy Lucas (right), a high school student from Greensburg, Indiana, who was taunted 4 being gay, hung himself at home in the barn where he kept his most beloved pet, his horse. A memorial page has been created on Facebook 4 people 2 say their goodbyes, and already homophobic comments have made its way on the site.If any gay youths out there with suicidal tendencies are reading this right now, please STOP! Know that you are loved and wanted, and when you hurt yourselves you give the bad people all the power. Don't give them any more power than they need because we don't need 2 make them stronger. We are the STRONG 1's! Hold your head up high and do not be afraid.
Shame on the schools and staff members that allow this 2 happen underneath their noses. Many staff member's have homophobic hearts so 2 them it may seem like water under the bridge, and 1 less gay person in the world 4 them 2 worry about. But what happens in the dark always comes 2 the light and don't 4 a minute think that no one is watching your hateful actions. Because some 1 is watching you!
This is the nation's leading organization 4 creating awareness about LGBT youth crisis and suicide prevention. They provide online support and maintain a 24 hour help line, Call: 866-488-7386.
Remembering the other LGBT youths that also commited suicide these past weeks: Tyler Clementi of Rutgers University, and teenagers Asher Brown and Seth Walsh.
